School Security

We sometimes hear comments about security on the Downtown Mall, to insure the safety of the Academy and the students we have installed and instituted the following.

Security Cameras

There are four cameras, which operate continuously, recording and monitoring all the entrances to the Academy.  Two of the cameras are mounted high on the outside of the building, one dedicated to each of the doors.  The other two cameras are inside the building, mounted high enough that they are not easy to tamper with.

Key pad entry

During the day, when no teachers are in the front entry area, the primary entry door is locked and entry is only possible by entering the security code, given only to teachers and parents.

Door chimes

To ensure that we know when anyone enters or leaves the building, the two entry doors each have a distinct chime that rings whenever the door is opened.

Adult presence

The Downtown Mall is legally a public park, with all the restrictions that accompany that status, such as the prohibition of alcohol consumption.  We feel it is important that the children get to play outside and get exposed to sunshine and fresh air.  When they go out to play in this public park, to walk, run, or draw with sidewalk chalk, we insist that there always be at least one adult present, and preferably two. The police and park maintenance personnel are also frequently present.
