November 10, 2022. Our students took their parents and teachers to the Big Sky Dairy in Vado, some dozen miles south of Las Cruces. Our host and guide, Jason McClure, outdid himself on explaining everything that goes on, from the life history of a cow to feeds, finances, milking, and more. There were some eye-opening moments for the children, involving bodily functions, the vast scale of the operation, and just what happens in the milking barn. After the hour-and-a-half tour, everyone ate lunch in the rodeo stands at Landmark Mercantile, the home business of Jason and his wife, Michelle. Part of lunch was, of course, ice cream! Another treat was seeing so many different species of animals at Landmark. We have a good story of an earlier visit to Landmark to hobnob with these animals.
